What Makes Our Intermediate Hokkien Classes Different?
Let’s Go Deeper into Conversation Creations.
If you are thinking of joining our Intermediate Hokkien Classes, you should already know a bunch of commonly-used Singapore Hokkien words spanning these topics: Greetings, Numbers, Time, Dates, Hobbies, Daily Activities, Common Body Parts & Medical Terms and Food. (P.S. If you have attended our Hokkien Workshop for Beginners, you are good to go!)
During your Intermediate Hokkien Classes, we want to help you converse fluently and naturally in Singapore Hokkien. Besides improving your vocabulary, you will learn how to better structure questions and sentences, so that you can further express yourselves in terms of what you see, feel, or experience in your daily life.
Efficient-Learning through Creative & Fun Practices!
Traditional language classes spend many sessions building vocabulary or teaching sentence structures by repeating each word or sentence after the tutor for x times. For us, we believe that if learning is not fun, you will lose the motivation to learn. Hence, it would not be effective even if you sit through multiple lessons. In fact, this has been proven many times by influential researchers, e.g. Dulay & Burt, 1997; Krashen, 1982.
This is why during your Intermediate Hokkien Classes, you will be engaged in many games right at the start of the workshop. We don’t want to give your surprises away, but let’s just say, with so many activities, you can be assured that time flies by in a flash. In addition, you will walk away with an improved standard of Singapore Hokkien.

Ski: Definitely. Your safety is our top concern, which is why we are operating at less than 50% of the training room’s capacity and enforcing strict safe distancing measures. We will also have safe management measures in place, including cleaning and disinfecting our training room and high-touch surfaces, contact tracing, and temperature screening.
Eugene: There will also be checks on visible symptoms (coughing, sneezing, breathlessness, or running nose) before entering the classroom. We seek your kind understanding and cooperation that any participant who appears unwell will be asked to leave the workshop. All participants are also required to wear masks at all times during the workshops.
Ski: Unfortunately, you can’t. At the moment, we accept payment via PayNow or FAST bank transfer.

Ski: Yes, an electronic certificate will be emailed to you, upon completion of all sessions.
Ski: Personally, we find that multiple 1-hour classes are not an efficient use of time. Think about the time you take to travel to and fro. What about that usual 5-10 minutes that the facilitators take to wait for latecomers? That’s the amount of time that you have committed without learning anything yet.
Eugene: So for us, we prefer highly-focused workshops. Since there is a need to travel anyway, we want you to get the most value out of each session. Plus, it’s easier to deal with an overall commitment of 2 weeks, rather than multiple weeks. Don’t you agree?
Ski: I hear you! In fact, during my schooling days, I had trouble paying attention even for a 1-hour lecture. So your concern is totally valid. This is precisely the reason why we include many activities in our workshops. Time flies by in a flash when you are being engaged and having fun! There are breaks too, with light refreshments (tea, coffee, biscuits) provided. If it helps to assure you, these are some of the feedback by our participants.
Eugene: Yes, we do not like regurgitation or one-way delivery. So fret not, you’ll not be sitting straight for 3.5 hours and listening to boring lectures. The facilitators love an interactive class too!
Ski: Hey, high five! I’m a slow learner too. My personal experience is that it doesn’t matter how fast or slow you learn. The more important factor is, how much time and effort are you putting in to practise? So if I may, here’s a piece of advice: Don’t shy away from our activities during the workshops. The more you practise, the more we can help to correct your pronunciation.
Eugene: We’ve put in lots of effort in designing the workshops to teach you the tactics of learning dialect(s) quickly. However, if you refuse to speak up during class, your learning is likely to be rather limited. It’s akin to playing tennis. You can read up on all the theories and buy every available book. However, if you don’t go to the court and play it, you’ll never learn it well. So for learning dialects, it’s the same. You’ve got to put in the effort and be courageous enough to keep speaking it. We’ll also be here to support you even after the workshop ends!
Ski: If you had attended our Hokkien Workshop for Beginners, you are good to go! If not, after we receive your application, we’ll give you a call to address your concerns.
Eugene: Yes, I’ll have a quick chat with you to ensure that the workshop fits your proficiency level. Talk soon, shall we?
